The Hallucinogenic Torreador
I went to the Salvador Dali museum today and saw this painting. I never realized how much symbolism was involved in his artwork. I’ve always assumed he was weird for the sake of being weird. If you look at this close up, it looks like a busy painting with a bunch of Venus de Milo statues. When you’re further away, you can see an alternate image of a torreador. The Venus’ green skirt becomes a man’s tie, a pair of lips can be seen in her abdomen, and her head is the torreador’s eye. The other Venus’ red skirt becomes his cape. The peach colored ring above the Venuses is the brim of a torreador’s hat. There’s a slain bull hidden in the bottom left of the painting.
I stared at this for ten minutes before I could finally make sense of it.
